Explanation
Steps/mm (steps per millimetre) settings determine how far a CNC machine moves when instructed to travel a specific distance. This calibration is crucial for achieving accurate movements in machining operations. CNC suppliers' steps/mm values are calculated based on theoretical mechanical specifications. However, due to variations in mechanical tolerances in different CNC machines, the actual steps/mm may deviate slightly from these calculated values.
How to Use The Calculator
- Enter Current Steps Per mm: This is the current calibration value of your machine's steps per millimetre.
- Enter Expected Distance in mm: This is the distance your machine is supposed to travel.
- Enter Actual Distance Traveled in mm: Measure and enter the actual distance your machine has traveled.
- Calculate: Click on the "Calculate Adjusted Steps Per mm" button to get the new calibration value.
- Modify Step Per mm Settings: Change the "Steps Per mm" setting in the GCODE sender software (UGS, IOSender, GRBL-Panel, UCCNC, Candle, bCNC, ChiliPeppr, LaserGRBL, etc).
Example
- Current Steps Per mm: 80
- Expected Distance (mm): 100
- Actual Distance Traveled (mm): 98
Click "Calculate" and the calculator will provide the new steps per mm value, which in this example would be 81.63.
With this information, you can change the "steps per mm" setting in the GCODE sender software (UGS, IOSender, GRBL-Panel, UCCNC, Candle, bCNC, ChiliPeppr, LaserGRBL, etc).
